Capta: New Smartphone Photography & Videography Companion

by Pu on November 5, 2011

Smartphone designers are always working to release devices that are more and more sophisticated, but they do not always have the actual needs of their users in mind. What if you need a tripod for your iPhone and how many of them have you purchased already that have become unusable after switching to the latest model, just because of design flaws or inconsistencies?

To make the life of users — iPhone, Android, Blackberry, you name it — much easier, the folks at Unique Design (Bojan Smiljanic and Adewale Adelusi-Adeluyi) created Capta, a hybrid two-piece accessory for smartphones that is intended as an implement working across multiple platforms.

Capta comes in many colors — red, black, silver — and it is made of a solid aluminum base with a sticky polyurethane pad to which you can attach your camera phone. Once you stick it to the polyurethane surface of Capta, the phone is firmly secured to the base and it can be mounted on any standard 1/4-20″ threading tripod. This way, you can use the camera phone to take photos and to record videos, preventing camera shake and image wobbling while shooting. Capta’s grip is effective at any angle, in order to allow more than simple landscape and portrait oriented shooting. Moreover, the base is designed to conveniently and easily manage your device’s cables. Besides the base, Capta comes also with an aluminum cover, to protect the polyurethane pad when you are not using it.

The project is already successfully funded on Kickstarter, but there is still enough time to make a pledge to support it. Deadline for pledging is November 22, 2011. You can give the amount you want, from as little as $1. However, higher pledges are getting a few cool extras, so be sure to check out the several options Capta’s developers are offering to their backers.

What on earth–? This is the most amazing Kickstarter product I’ve ever seen! If there is a tablet version for Capta, it will rock more!
