Hipstamatic Oggl 1.3 Doesn’t Like My Camera Roll
It was past 5 AM here when I saw the notification that there was an update for Hipstamatic Oggl. I was expecting the usual routine “bug fixes, performance improvements, yadda yadda” sort of update. But no, it had to be a major update, importing images from camera roll, no less! I thought I’d give it a try even though I had just returned from the last daily walk with our marketing strategist—I mean, the dog—and my next plan was letting my face be devoured by the pillow.

The Shot That Framed The Bear
The following photo nearly got me arrested. It’s not a joke, I’m serious here. As everybody can see, it is a very innocent shot of a stuffed little bear hanging onto a door knob. It’s not a memorable photo in itself, it’s just one of those “oddities snapshots” everybody takes once in a while.

As I see it, the story behind it goes as follows: a child drops the fuzzy critter on the sidewalk without being aware; later that day somebody finds and puts it where everybody will be able to see it, including its owner. Continue reading “The Shot That Framed The Bear”
When Apps Take Over: The Genesis of Moons
Some days you are applying yourself to a specific project and everything you come up with looks invariably wrong. It’s not that your image will look bad per se, but the feeling is things are just not what you are after, and you cannot understand when and how you took a wrong turn. It’s like with trying to fix a spoiled recipe (cookery is another serious business and an art in its own right): if the dough is not rising and you cannot figure out why, it’s time to take a break and focus on something else. Gardening or knitting perhaps—good luck with these two.

Some time ago I started a series of pictures with thematic and visual affinity. At some point I got stuck and couldn’t go on Continue reading “When Apps Take Over: The Genesis of Moons”
